The Jersey Cape is more, much more, than a great summer destination. Not too long ago, the beautiful months of October and November were a bit of a secret, but then we decided to share. Guess what? In no time people were flocking to Victorian Cape May to enjoy an unparalleled holiday experience of trolley rides, house tours and stage productions culminating with First Night in Ocean City.

Winter around the Jersey Cape is a wonderful time to plan a romantic getaway at a charming bed and breakfast inn, ready to cater to your every whim. Enjoy a scrumptious meal in front of a blazing fireplace after a bracing afternoon outside - walking the bay beaches especially in Cumberland County as you keep an eye out for waterfowl, hawks and bald eagles that also spend their winters right here among us. A bit too chilly? Then it’s the perfect day to visit one of our many wineries for a tour and tasting – or, depending on your beverage of choice, a brewery or our most recent addition to our beverage tourism, a distillery. So, beat those winter doldrums with a warm and cozy escape to the Jersey Cape. We’ll be waiting for you!

WHERE TO COZY UP

A Candlelight House Tour in Mauricetown or the Greenwich Christmas House Tour are guaranteed to add to your holiday happiness. Or take in a movie at Harbor Square in Stone Harbor. Shop at local boutiques or indulge yourself with a couples’ massage at Cape May Day Spa. The Glasstown Arts District hosts Third Fridays year-round, always a festive atmosphere.

The Historic Landmark City of Cape May is pretty much open year-round. Brown Room at the Congress Hall Hotel is Cape May’s living room with comfortable couches, a roaring fireplace and an amazing drink selection – think mulled cider or a Congressional Cosmo - to pair with small plates of battered cheese curds or mini crab cakes.

Grab a table near the fireplace in the dining room in FINS Restaurant on the Washington Street Mall - the perfect spot to watch those beautiful fish in the 600-gallon salt water tank. The menu is both casual and upscale with seafood choices, flatbreads, apps to share, 20 beers on tap and live entertainment.

The Carroll Villa and Mad Batter on Historic Jackson Street is one of only five extant Victorian hotels in Cape May, a charming and unpretentious choice for a cozy getaway. Start your day with a Bloody Mary and Eggs Chesapeake at the Mad Batter on the recently undated -- and heated - porch as you watch the horse-drawn carriage meander by. Come back for dinner and enjoy the ambiance of the friendliest bar in town as talented local musicians perform throughout the evening. Another bonus: a changing art exhibit in the restaurant showcasing area artists.

Icona Resort in the Diamond Beach just over the bridge from Cape May offers reduced room rates in the winter with a great on-site restaurant, Coastal Blue. The ocean is just steps away - let the sound of waves lull you to sleep.

Weekends at Willow Creek Winery start with Firepit Fridays. Inside a beautiful stone fireplace warms the impressive post and beam winery filled with comfortable soft leather couches and chairs and just ooze relaxation, especially with a glass of wine in hand.
